Tongkat ali is an herbal supplement that is also called long jack and pasak bumi, and by its botanical name Eurycoma longifolia. In folk remedies in Malaysia, Tongkat ali is used as an aphrodisiac and a treatment for erectile dysfunction, fever, fatigue, malaria, and high blood pressure. Several scientific studies exist that show the effects of Tongkat ali extracts in animals and found that it may also increase the amount of testosterone in the blood of males to maintain erections and potentially increase muscle mass.
Tongkat ali has been shown to increase the amount of high-density lipoproteins, or HDLs, in the blood, which can be essential for maintaining healthy arteries by preventing plaque accumulation in the artery walls. The study also reported an increase in HGH (human growth hormone), which is responsible for the growth of reproduction of cells. Tongkat ali root tinctures contain antioxidants that can inhibit cellular aging as well as phytochemicals to fight viruses and cancer. According to a study published in PubMed.gov, Tongkat ali caused apoptosis or cell death in human breast cancer cells. Another study showed it to be cytotoxic, or fatal to human lung cancer cells. According to the Forest Research Institute Malaysia, Tongkat ali tincture contains the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase. Antioxidants can destroy waste products known as free radicals that can damage other living cells.
Tongkat Ali, aka E. longifolia jack, is an increasingly popular supplement, due to the testosterone-increasing effects, it is sometimes used by athletes and bodybuilders as an alternative to anabolic steroids. The increase enables muscle-building, increasing strength and it increases your internal temperature by raising the heart rate and speeding the flow of blood throughout the body. Thermogenic agents are often used in dieting and weight loss plans. It is used extensively for its aphrodisiac effects and believed to enhance sexual passion, stamina, sensitivity, circulation in the penis and fertility. In animal studies done in Malaysia, it was found to increase sexual interest in almost all male rats, including those who are inexperienced, middle-aged, and even castrated.

Studies have shown that the herb can be compared medicinally to diazepam. Animal studies have shown that those who were given Tongkat ali tincture had a significant decrease in episodes of fighting. Tongkat ali root definitely increases energy levels, which helps to fight fatigue. It does this by increasing the body's metabolic rate and enhances circulation thereby providing oxygen quickly to the body's system.
The extract of Tongkat ali has been tested in the treatment of hyperglycemia, the high concentration of sugar found in the blood of diabetics. In one study they were found to lower blood glucose levels significantly using diabetic rats. It has also been shown to have an effect on negative bacteria, E. coli, and Salmonella with the antibacterial compounds found in the root. The chemicals called quassinoid, alkaloid, and peptide, a property used to kill malaria parasites.

Non-Alcohol: Tongkat ali Root, Structured Water, Vegetable Glycerin.
Instructions: Use as directed above or 6-12 drops in juice or water, under the tongue or as desired. May be taken 3 times daily. Shake well. Store in cool, dark place. Keep out of reach of children.
Contraindications: Eurycoma longifolia extract is possibly safe when taken orally in medicinal amounts for up to 9 months. As with any herbal regimen, take a day or two off occasionally. When used for extended periods of time, again 5 days on and 2 days off will meet the recommended 40% cycle time. There is not enough reliable information about Tongkat ali tinctures if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid its use during this time.
