The tannins in strawberry leaf teas are a gentle remedy for diarrhea. King's American Dispensatory, a textbook of herbal medicine used by physicians in the United States in the early twentieth century, recommends strawberry leaf tincture mixed with mulberry or raspberry syrup for treating dysentery, conditions modern medicine would identify as chlamydia or gonorrhea, and difficulty in urination. The leaf is recognized as a blood purifier and has been indicated for the treatment of night sweats anemia and to reduce a heavy flow of menstruation, and finally to support a healthy natural weight loss. Strawberry Leaf is believed to help cleanse the stomach, tone the appetite and bowels. Other traditional uses for the herbal tincture has been for rashes, respiratory complaints, tension, and stress.
Strawberry leaf may also be added to bath water for aches and pains or used as a mouth and throat gargle.
The German Commission E recommends preparations made from wild strawberry leaves for external use in treating rashes, as well as internally for treating gastrointestinal catarrh (mucus), diarrhea, intestinal toning, liver health maintenance, catarrh of respiratory passages, rheumatism, nervousness, bladder health maintenance, gravel, fever, as a diuretic and in support of vascular health.
The leaf is also recognized as a blood purifier and is indicated for treating night sweats, to stimulate digestion, in anemia, as a tonic, to reduce profuse menstruation and, finally, to support a natural loss of weight. A blood purifier, purgative, and lactation stimulant.
